The bulldogs suffer with no severe health problems than many other dog breeds suffer. The bulldogs can suffer from epilepsy, cancer, eye and skin infections, diabetic and many other diseases. Bulldogs have high tolerance for pain so they require more care and health monitoring frequently. Usually bulldogs remain healthy and active and they get ill rarely. Some diseases are common in all bulldogs and some diseases are found rarely in specific bulldog breed.
Precautionary Measures
Precautionary measures start when you decide to buy a puppy; choice a responsible and reputable breeder who has taking good care of bitch and also puppies. The mother bulldog can transfer diseases to her puppies during the pregnancy period. If the bitch is not tested and vaccinated before breeding, not fed a balanced diet or she is suffering from round worms or fleas, there are many chances that she can pass these parasites and infections to the puppies. When you a buy a puppy, your first task should be to take your puppy for veterinary checkup it is very important. Veterinary doctor will examine the puppy properly and also tell you about all precautions that are important for good health of the puppy.
Skin infections precautions
Bulldogs main suffer from various skin infections, some infections are minor and some skin infections are serious. Common skin problems in bulldogs are eczema, acne and seborrhea. There are many skin medicines are available. If the bulldog is suffering from any skin infection consult the veterinary doctor as soon as possible.
Diarrhea and vomiting
Diarrhea and vomiting common causes are overfeeding, unbalanced diet or change in temperature. Bulldogs should be given balanced diet, if the quantity or food quality changes, it will cause diarrhea and vomiting. If your bulldog is suffered from vomiting or diarrhea then make certain that the bulldog has access to plenty of fresh water and also give some medicine. Diarrhea and vomiting remained more than two days then it is alarming, so consult the veterinary doctor with no delay.
Eye infections
Some bulldogs have poor eye sight and some bulldogs have viral eye infections. Viral eye infections are due to dust, irritation or may attack during breeding. Some infections are cured itself and some needs special treatment.
Gastric Torsion and Bloat
Some bulldogs breeds have deep chest and narrow waists so the bulldog suffer from gastric problem, the stomach fills up with air and it creates hurdle for the blood supply. When the blood supply is blocked then the condition of the bulldog becomes worse, sometimes it may cause death. By using high quality feeders reduces the air swallowing during meals and also reduces the air in stomach. By giving one heavy meal to the bulldog instead give two to three small meals and also avoid exercise before hour of meal and after two hours of meal. Balanced diet will reduce this problem.
Round worms
The bulldogs are suffered from round worms so proper treatment is required. Do test of the bulldogs and also give proper medicines to the bulldog.
Fleas
Fleas are very common in the bulldogs so use flea comb and also rub the bulldog’s skin with alcohol.
Dog massage
The bulldogs are very friendly, loving and protective breed. Anxiety, stress and barking are not common in the English bulldogs. Bulldogs enjoy music and massage. Massage helps in reducing stress and also bulldogs feel relaxed and happy.
Senior bulldogs need extra care and more health precautionary measures. By taking few preventive measures you will save the bulldog from different diseases and you can keep them healthier.
